Moments captured in art photography
Art photography captures moments, brings details into focus and opens up new perspectives. Viewed through a lens, subjects take on a different meaning and artists can convey their subjective perspective to us in a unique way. At the Students’ Art Market, you’ll find artistic photography that is personal, authentic and full of expression. SKM artists showcase their perspectives on everyday life, nature and people. Whether edited or left as pure photography, there’s something here to suit everyone’s taste.
Art photography
Here you will find numerous works of art photography showcasing a variety of subjects, styles and the individual perspectives of the photographers. Photography emerged at the end of the 19th century, following on from its predecessor, the daguerreotype. The revolution brought about by this medium lay in the fact that a moment of reality could be frozen and fixed in a format for later observation. Initially, both the daguerreotype and photography were devoted to capturing moments in the surrounding world: family portraits, landscape scenes, still lifes and so on. Although these subjects originated in painting, photography succeeded in depicting these scenes as they were or as they unfolded – that is, objectively. However, 20th-century photographers increasingly began to make choices in their documentation, so that recording the world around them was no longer merely about capturing a moment in a scene, but about deciding which scene to capture and how it unfolded: the photographer’s choices. As a result of this decision-making, photographers ceased to be mere portraitists of the world and became interpreters of the world and, indeed, of our reality. A good example of this is August Sander, who, in the 20th century, produced a series of portraits of men that were by no means merely depictions of individuals, but rather reflected the society of Sander’s time in portraits that, at first glance, merely look like portraits. Photographers continued to evolve in the way they interpreted reality, and later, names such as Man Ray in the 1920s or Nan Goldin in the 1990s emerged, who, through the ‘what’ and the ‘how’, explored the subjective content of photography to such an extent that they transformed it into a form of art.

If you’re looking to add some vibrancy to your home, don’t miss the works of Adrian Ferdinand are a must-have! His artistic photographs are sure to become a highlight of your home, as they depict everyday moments in an unflinching, direct manner, often in vibrant colours. In his artistic photographs, he explores his immediate surroundings, focusing on the casual and the everyday, and captures moments spontaneously through his lens. His artistic photography is very modern and captures contemporary moments of (sub)culture, social life, fashion, diverse value systems and the question of one’s own identity. The style of the images and the spontaneous perspective are somewhat reminiscent of Wolfgang Tillmanns’ work.
Art photography by Lucia Jacobs
Lucia Jacobs transforms places and moments into artistic photography. Her aim is to create beauty in turbulent times, whilst also turning her lens towards pressing issues and capturing the spirit of Gen Z under the motto “Who are you when nobody is watching?”. With a deep passion for detail and symbolism, as well as a keen sense of how to use light and colour, she succeeds in creating a unique visual language – somewhere between reality and dreams. This surreal photographic art can transform your surroundings into another world that seems magical and unique.
Art photography by Nele Dorn
In Nele Dorn’s works, we present nude photographic art that treats the body as a sculpture, thereby becoming sculptural material in its own right. She explores the fascination with the human body, how we treat it, the relationship we have with it, and how this relationship is shaped by external influences. In her artistic photography, physical forms appear soft, hard, vulnerable or exposed, and are transformed into art.
Art photography by Isabella Melis
As the final artist, we would like to Isabella Melis present her work. In her artistic photography, she explores surreal worlds that appear whimsical and unique. She deliberately uses colour to create a reality that feels dreamlike and unreal: The sky is purple, a person vanishes behind a purple veil, nature takes on a completely different colour and is reminiscent of science fiction worlds. But she goes even further, breaking the boundaries of traditional media and expanding the scope of artistic photography with artificial intelligence. In this way, she explores new forms of expression, embraces the serendipity of contemporary techniques and creates alienated portraits that have never existed before – perhaps a theme of our future. Her artistic photography adds real eye-catchers to your home and creates spaces beyond reality.
So, we hope we’ve helped you gain a better understanding of art photography and sparked your interest. Have fun choosing and ordering!
