"Holding" is built around an impossible gesture. The hands reference a mudra: thumbs crossed to form a bird. But the fingers are also intertwined, creating a position that cannot exist in reality. The painting lives in that contradiction: between symbol and body, between what a hand can hold and what it cannot.
