Samuel Obst
I paint because it is the best way for me to interpret what we don’t see or understand, what surpasses us as human beings.
I paint to understand, and if one day I understand, I would paint to remember.
My work is a call to contemplate individuals caught in the act of being human.
A body experiencing its own vagaries. As much through the presence as through the absence of figures.
Time and space are condensed to explore different states of consciousness.
Understanding the movement of a body undergoing the drifts of the soul.
Understanding what leads to these drifts.
I work as a drawing artist for the Neumarkt Theater in Zurich.
Drawing is a way for me to explore and let go.
I want to focus on what I see and forget what I know.
To create a space that belongs to the paper.
I could say the same for the painting.
