Art Student of the Month

The Art Student of the Month is selected based on various factors. This category recognizes the artist who generated the most sales in the respective month. We also consider factors such as reliability, professionalism, and communication in the selection process. This is our way of honoring outstanding collaboration. The fact that this award is only given once does not mean that the artist was less impressive in other months.

What is Artist of the Month?

'Artist of the Month' is an award for outstanding achievements in the SKM community. It is presented monthly to artists who not only achieve the highest sales figures but also impress with their professionalism and reliability. Investing in art is therefore particularly worthwhile in these cases. The award can be received once and recognizes special moments of success in an artist's career.

Michael Tauschke

Michael Tauschke's works are deeply rooted explorations of light, darkness, and the many shades in between. His paintings, which combine floral, figurative, and cosmic motifs, transport viewers to a supernatural world. His artistic practice is not only about what is visible, but also about what lies beneath—the fragility of life, the transience of existence, and the perpetual search for meaning in chaos.

Michael Tauschke

In my art, I explore, among other things, my everyday life and view it from a new perspective through my paintings. I am driven by a great curiosity about what surrounds me. Nothing is too trivial for me to paint. I find live painting, or plein air painting, of seemingly ordinary scenes particularly exciting.

Art as an Investment: A Guide for Experienced Investors

Art as an investment is becoming increasingly important, as it offers an attractive way to invest capital for the long term. Unlike volatile stock markets or low-interest savings accounts, art can increase in value over the years, and investing in art proves to be a crisis-proof investment. Investing in art is particularly worthwhile for investors looking to diversify their portfolio. High-quality works of art don't always have to cost millions – even with a smaller budget, you can invest in art and acquire promising works that can increase in value over time.

Emerging artists, in particular, offer a valuable investment for little money, as their works are still available at affordable prices. Through clever selection and targeted investments, the value of a work of art can increase significantly over the years. With Student Art Market, we represent over 400 young art students from across Germany. Investing in art also adds personality to your home and reflects your individual taste. Those who invest early in talented young artists have the opportunity not only to profit financially but also to actively shape the development of the art world. Investing in art is much more than just acquiring a beautiful piece for your home. In this article, we explore the most important aspects of the art market and explain why investing in art makes sense, especially for experienced investors.

Why invest in art?

Art is a separate asset class, distinct from traditional markets such as stocks or real estate. Works of art are unique; they are not subject to the fluctuations of financial markets and often have an intrinsic value that exists independently of economic conditions. Historically, art has shown stable long-term increases in value. Investing in art by young, lesser-known artists, in particular, holds great development potential. At fair, comparatively low prices, you can invest in paintings that can develop into valuable works over time. Works by artists at the beginning of their careers, such as those in the student art market, offer good opportunities for a profitable return on investment in the future and are therefore particularly suitable for those who want to invest in art. The development of increasing-value works and rising artists can be easily tracked on our platform.

Another advantage of art investments is the diversification of your portfolio. A diversified portfolio protects you from fluctuations in a particular industry and provides stability to your assets. Investing in art opens up a whole new world of possibilities: works of art are physical assets that exist independently of traditional financial markets. They are unaffected by inflation and economic turmoil. Investing in art brings not only financial benefits but also pleasure: you automatically engage with creative, inspiring works and surround yourself with aesthetics.

The Art Market: An Overview

The art market is divided into different segments: the primary market, where works are sold directly by artists or galleries, and the secondary market, where previously sold works are resold. Both markets offer different opportunities and challenges. Investing in art on the primary market has the advantage that the authenticity of the works is guaranteed directly by the artists. You can also engage in personal dialogue with the artists and learn more about the background of their work and their inspirations. And once you've found your favorite artist, you're sitting directly at the source for further investments in art.

Online trading is also a growing part of the art market. As is the case everywhere, a large part of the art investing market is shifting online. Platforms like ours enable investors to purchase works of art from the comfort of their own home. Such digital marketplaces offer access to a wider range of artists and styles. Buyers and artists no longer have to be physically in the same place, but can find each other from completely different regions. This creates a wider selection and more convenient purchasing conditions when investing in art. It also makes it easier to compare prices and conduct research if you're potentially considering investing in art.

It's important to us that, despite the online environment, a personal experience and individualized advice are still available when investing in art. We curate the SKM artists based on selected criteria, have personally visited many of them in their studios throughout Germany, and regularly host exhibitions with individual artists on-site at the SKM Gallery in Leipzig. This has created a vibrant community that thrives on mutual support and exchange. This also includes our customers, whose input we greatly value. SKM co-founder Erich Reich would be happy to personally advise you in a free art consultation if you are interested in investing in art. He knows the SKM artists like no other and will support you in expanding your collection with promising talents.

Art and Technology: A New Trend?

As with any investment, it's important to keep up with current market developments when investing in art. Digitalization plays an interesting role here, as it doesn't stop at art either: from robots that paint pictures to NFTs. Technological developments are flowing into artistic works and have transformed the art market. From online auction houses to virtual galleries, digitalization opens up new possibilities. This is also evident when investing in art. Blockchain technology and NFTs (non-fungible tokens) offer new ways to secure proof of ownership and simplify art trading. These developments create additional transparency and security for investors who invest in art.

However, the NFT market has experienced considerable volatility in recent years. The initial hype led to speculative investments and extreme price fluctuations. Many NFTs were traded at inflated prices, only to subsequently lose significant value. This volatility has led many investors to become more cautious. At Student Art Market, we primarily leverage the advantages of an online gallery: simplified communication, a wider selection regardless of location, and customized filtering options when searching for motifs, materials, or artists. While we leverage the opportunities offered by digitalization for art investments, we simultaneously ensure that the art purchase experience remains personal, individual, and human. Ultimately, art and investing in art always means an emotional experience that cannot be replaced by a machine.

Investing in Young Art Students

An often overlooked but extremely lucrative area of the art market is investing in works by young art students. These emerging talents offer a unique opportunity for early investments with high potential for appreciation. Our platform Student Art Market gives you access to a wide variety of art students whose works have already experienced remarkable increases in value – in some cases over 400%. Investing successfully in art can be easier than you think.

Investing in art by young artists offers several positive aspects. First, the works are often more affordable than those of established artists, which means a lower entry price. Secondly, young artists have the potential to develop significant careers, which can lead to significant increases in the value of their early works. Furthermore, by supporting young talent, you contribute to the development of culture and promote the generation of artists of tomorrow. Starting a career as an artist is not easy, so investing in the art of young artists offers benefits for both sides.

Furthermore, investing in the works of young art students offers not only financial opportunities but also emotional and intellectual enrichment. You become part of the creative process and can witness the growth and development of promising talents. It also allows you to build an exciting portfolio that is not only focused on monetary gain but also reflects your personal connection to art. By investing early in innovative and visionary artists, you not only secure potential returns with valuable paintings, but also a place in the exciting world of contemporary art.

Art Student of the Month

Every month, we honor one of our SKM artists as "Artist of the Month." We select based on various factors. This category honors the artist who has generated the most sales in the respective month. In addition to hard facts such as sales figures, we also consider factors such as reliability, professionalism, and communication in our selection. We want to particularly honor outstanding collaborations. Each SKM artist can only receive the award once. It does not mean that the artist will be less convincing in the coming months.

The "Art Student of the Month" award is interesting for both artists and clients, as it highlights which artists are currently in particularly high demand and whose paintings are therefore promising investments. This award is therefore particularly relevant if you want to invest in art. We want to create more transparency in art investments and also provide support in selecting particularly promising paintings as investments.
