This is a sketch for a bigger painting from 2020 (last picture). The Lovers discusses the idea of love with respect to its often superficial positive connotation. As has been described by Erich Fromm in the "Die Kunst des Liebens", love is not something universally given to us but rather is an art that has to be mastered. As the initial period of being in love fades so does the veil that permeates only the positive side of our repected other. It is in this time that true love or the idea of a supposed love comes into the light. The Lovers depicts this threshold - will love prevail or fade as it does so often.
